The Dress Rental App docs

Everything you need to set up and run rentals on Shopify, from first install to bookings, late fees, try-ons and in-store rentals. Many guides include a short video.

Getting started

Before you start: disable other rental apps Before using The Dress Rental App, disable or uninstall any other rental apps. Two rental apps on one store will conflict on your product pages and at checkout. Quick setup wizard The fastest way to set up the app: answer nine questions about your shop and it configures your rental rules for you. Setup checklist Set up the app manually by following these steps in order. Set your defaults before adding products so every dress you import picks them up. Add the rental calendar to your products Place the rental booking calendar on your Shopify product pages so customers can pick their dates.

Settings

General settings Your store profile details are pulled from your Shopify store by default. You can change them here. Rental settings Your store-wide rental rules. They apply to new rental products unless you override them on an individual product. Delivery methods & booking dates Delivery settings control the delivery method names on the product page and how dates are blocked on the storefront calendar. Checkout delivery lock, shipping charges & weekly cut-offs Keeps the delivery option at checkout the same as the method chosen on the product page. Booking settings Control how staff create and edit bookings, and set up late fees, customer disputes and bond refunds. Notifications & email templates Choose who receives automatic rental and try-on emails, edit each email template, and send overdue reminders. Data tools Imports, exports and maintenance tools for your rental data. Collection automation Automatically create Shopify collections and menu links for brands, sizes, colours and styles, so customers can browse your range.

Rental products

Import rental products Choose which of your Shopify products become rentals. Bulk import by product type Import every Shopify product of one product type at once, for example all products with the type Dress Hire. Automatic rental product import New Shopify products with a chosen Product Type are added to Rental Products automatically, so you don't have to import each new dress. Edit a rental product In Rental Products, click the pencil icon to open Edit Product. Each section can override your store defaults for this dress only. Archive products & bulk edit fees Stop renting a dress without losing its history, bring archived dresses back, and update bonds or cleaning fees on many products at once. Duration-based rentals With the Fixed durations model, customers pick a rental length from a list, and each length is priced by its Shopify variant. Next business day rentals With next business day rentals, customers only pick a start date and the return date is set to the next weekday automatically. Rental inventory CSV import Set product-level or variant-level rental quantities for many products at once.

Bookings

Bookings page & statuses Every rental order placed through your storefront, POS or a manual booking appears in Bookings. Inside a booking Each booking has tabs for the product, customer, delivery, payments, history, disputes and staff notes. Click View booking to open it. Add a manual booking Record bookings taken over the phone, by DM or in person, so they block the calendar. Tracking & fulfilment Add tracking numbers to a booking and the app updates the Shopify order and fulfils it for you. Late fees, bond refunds & costs Refund bonds, charge late fees and record cleaning and repair costs from each booking's Payments tab. Customer disputes & damage claims Turn on Enable customer disputes in Settings → Bookings. Each booking then has a Customer Disputes tab. Move from another rental app Import your current bookings so their dates are blocked from day one. Manually block out dates Booked dates are blocked automatically. Use manual blocking to make a dress unavailable on other dates, for example when it's away for repairs. Holiday mode Stop all new bookings across your store for one or more date ranges, for example over Christmas or while you're away. Terms and conditions checkbox Require customers to accept your rental terms before completing their booking.

Try-ons & in store

Set up try-on appointments Let customers book in-store try-ons from your product pages. Manage try-on appointments Book try-on appointments for customers yourself, and reschedule, cancel or review appointments from the Try-ons page. Try-on Calendar block Add the Try-on Calendar app block to your product pages so customers can book try-on appointments, then style it to match your theme. Google Calendar sync Automatically create, reschedule and remove Google Calendar events for try-on appointments. Shopify POS rentals Create rental bookings in store and take payment through Shopify POS, using the same availability as your website.

Storefront & add-ons

Customise the rental widget Change the rental widget's wording, colours and layout, both in the app and in your Shopify theme editor. Booking form fields Collect extra details from customers when they book. Go to Booking Fields & Add Ons → Booking Form Fields. Insurance, custom add-ons, upsells & accessories Earn more from each rental with optional insurance, custom add-ons, upsell products and date-aware accessories. Search by Date widget A storefront search where customers choose their date, duration, delivery method and size, then see only the dresses available. Quote requests: Request a Dress, Vacation Capsule & Price Match Take enquiries from customers and reply with a quote. Everything lands in Quote Requests, sorted into tabs.

Reports & plans

Dashboard An overview of your rental business. Change the date range at the top (the default is the last 30 days) and everything updates. Profit tracker See how profitable each dress really is. The summary shows Total revenue, Total costs, Net profit and Total Rental Bookings. Plans & booking limits The Dress Rental App has a free plan and three paid plans, priced by how many rental bookings you take each month.
